Last year, when two of the four members of our Development Team took medical leave during the critical planning period for Westside Food Bank’s largest annual fundraiser, Hunger Walk, I stepped up and took ownership of the event. Over the six-month planning cycle, I took on additional responsibilities and successfully led the execution of a record-breaking Hunger Walk, achieving exceptional results despite a significantly reduced team.

From Vision to Victory: Westside Food Bank’s Largest-Ever 5K Hunger Walk

  • 950+ Registrants

    By leveraging social media advertising, digital outreach campaigns, and strategic engagement with local community groups and volunteers, I helped secure the highest number of walker registrations in the organization’s history.

  • $50K+ in Sponsorships

    I attained over $50K in sponsorships and 30 in-kind donations through selective outreach with corporate partners and local businesses. I also coordinated more than 10 vendors participating in the event’s business expo, ensuring strong community representation and seamless event execution.

  • 15+ Performers

    I procured performers from Santa Monica College’s Global Motion World Dance Company and arranged for a local DJ to host the event. I curated an entertainment lineup that elevated the overall attendee experience, increased on-site energy and participation, and strengthened community partnerships for future events.

  • 50+ Volunteers

    I partnered with the Volunteer Manager to staff this primarily volunteer-run event, successfully recruiting and coordinating more than 50 volunteers. I had previously managed volunteer coordination before delegating ownership, strengthening team collaboration and improving operational efficiency.

  • Developed event website and promotional materials

    I managed the back-end of the Hunger Walk website, ensuring registration integration with our CRM system to support real-time data tracking and reporting. I also oversaw the design, production, and ordering of all event materials.

I collaborated closely with celebrity Ana Ortiz to coordinate her appearance at the event, where she participated in the pre-5K program and assisted with raffle drawings. Following the event, she promoted it to her 121K social media followers, significantly expanding our reach and increasing post-event visibility and engagement.
